Chapter 1: Brighter Futures to Come
My name is Jessica Melinda David’s, and I’m 13 years old last
month. I have long black hair with two blonde streaks in the front from a messed up hair dye experiment. But I must say it
doesn’t look so bad. I have chocolate brown eyes and pale but slightly tanned skin form all the time I’ve spent
outside, to escape the noise of all the children of the orphanage.
I live at St. John’s Children’s Orphanage; along with about
60 or 70 other kids, ranging from 4 to 17. I share a room with my best friend, Katherine Jenkins, who’s like me. Bother
of her parents died in a house fire that destroyed her house. Among other things that we have in common, we both hate this
place and want to go out a see the world.
Today’s, or tonight rather, is the night that that’s
going to happen, for me at least. Katie finally convinced me to follow my dream, show them all, and become the greatest pokemon
master ever. We had spent weeks planning and packing up everything I would need. I have everything packed up days before it
was planned I would sneak out.
It was now 1:30 AM, when everyone else was long asleep except for to teenage girls planning about to
execute a jailbreak. I had slept in my clothes, a blue sweater with tan sleeves, gray jeans and black sneakers with white
strips down the sides.
I have my entire life stuffed into my backpack; my sleeping bag tied
on top. I had a few days worth of food and a water canteen in it.
" You sure about this?" I asked, taking extra care to whisper.
" Yeah! Now get out there and don’t come back until you’re the greatest Pokemon Master every!" she said, winking
at me "Oh yeah and here. To remember me by"
She stuck her hand in her pajama pants pocket and pulled out a necklace of a sturdy golden chain. It was heart shaped and
had a red rose on the front. I stared at it, shocked.
" But Katie. This was your moms’ necklace. I can’t take this." I said to her holding it in my hands.
" I know, but now it’s yours now. So take care of it or I’ll have to hurt you." Katie said, putting her hands
on both my shoulders.
" Now then, better get going." She said and smiled, but I could tell that it was forced into place.
" Yeah." I said sadly and gave her a long hug, then climbed out the window.
I walked to the end of the huge lawn and turned around, looking towards my open window to see Katie looking at me, tears
in her eyes.
I smiled and gave her a thumbs-up, and she returned the gesture.
With that one final goodbye I ran down the dirt road and away from the orphanage that I had spent seven years of my life
in. I soon got into the woods, heading towards the next town over, Cavara City. There I could get registered, a pokedex and
a pokemon.
I stopped running and slowed to a walk near the entrance to the forest. I looked up at the dark trees and took a deep breath
and walked in.
I had walked for about an hour before I heard a loud cry form
somewhere off the path. I decided to investigate and ran towards the cry. I broke through a clump of bushes to see two pokemon.
One of them was very small, about 1 foot high, yellow pokemon with large ears outlined with black. It had a small, black zigzag
pattern around its neck. It was very injured, with many scratches on its body. It was on the ground, but struggling it get
up.
"Piiiii." It growled with the effort.
The second pokemon was a very large, about 4 foot 7, purple dog. It had large tusks coming out of its bottom jaw; black
bands around its wrists and a large oval shaped design on its neck.
"Hey!" I yelled, getting the dog pokemons attention. It looked towards me and growled.
But it soon turned its attention back to the wounded Pichu on the ground. I clenched
my teeth in frustration and picked up a nearby rock and threw it. It hit the Granbull square in the face, angering it. An
angry growl rose from it as I charged at me, ready to scewer me with tis large tusks. But I quickly dodged to the side and
the Granbull got its tusks wedgied deep into the tree that had been behind me.
I ran over to the wounded baby pokemon, who had fainted on the ground, and picked
it up in my arms, running out the way I had came in just as the Granbull mamanged to yank its huge tusks out of the tree.
It looked around, confused as to where I had gone and snorted in frustration, but walked off.
I ran all the way to Cavara City, and staright into its pokemon cneter. I ran in and up to the desk, stoping to try and
catch my breath.
" Yes how may I help you?" Nurse Joy asked but then saw the wounded pichu in my arms and told her Blissey to get a stretcher.
The pink pokemon put the pichu on it and wheeled it into the back room.
" It got attacked by and Granbull." I told her before she went into the back, telling me to wait outside.
I waited for aobut an hour before Nurse Joy came back out again with the Pichu in
her arms. Its left ear was wrapped in white bandges and it was eating a piece of pokemon food.
" It should be feeling better now but It should get some rest. Is this your Pichu?" she asked me as she came out.
" Now it’s now mine. I found it in the forest while I was walking here. I want to get my first pokemon." I told her
and she smiled at me.
" Well looks like you found on in this little Pichu." She said and pointed at it. The tiny mouse looked at her finger then
at me and suddenly jumped form her arms onto my shoudler and started rubbing tis head against my cheeck.
" You really wanrt to be my first pokemno Pichu?" I asked him. He looked at me and nodded franticly.
" Okay then, now that you have your first pokemon you should go to the pokemno center and get registerd." Nurse Joy suggested
and I was aobtu to go when she stopped me " But first you need to stay here tonigth and gert some rest. Use one of our rooms
in the back"
She led me into the back of the center and to one of the guestrooms.
" I guess she’s right. So what about your parents, won’t they miss you if you come with me?" I asked the tiny
yellow mouse as it lept onto the bed, sitting down on to top it. It got this sad look all of a sudden.
" I lost my parents to you know. So how about you come with me and we can keep eachother company?" I said, sitting down
next to it and smiling. I smiled up at me and nodded.
I got on my pajamas and climbed into bed, my new friend curled up in a little ball on my pillow next to my head. I smiled
at him as I watched him sleep, then closed my eyes and did the same.
